From Self-Discovery to Character Embodiment: Ms. Harriet Yeung Sze Man's Lecture on Dramatic Performance

An actor embodies a role and shapes a character through a creative process. From the external appearance, physical movements, and linguistic style to the internal personality, preferences, affections, and emotional undertones—all rely on the actor's creative input to establish the conditions for this character to grow within them, generating a convincing sense of authenticity. Yet, there is always a distance between the actor and the role. Whether this distance is too close or too far, it inevitably leads to confusion. So how does an actor navigate this creative journey—starting from their own self—to find the right position and gradually align with the character? How can they retain their own identity while drawing from personal experiences, reconciling values, and ultimately presenting a fully realized, flesh-and-blood character? This lecture invites renowned actress Ms. Harriet Yeung Sze Man to share her journey in theatrical performance creation.
