From Monologue to Dialogue: Scriptwriting Insights by Mr. Wang Haoran
The TDLEG project "Drama and Communication: Enhancing Chinese Language Proficiency, Personal Growth, and Cross-Institutional Collaboration through Performance," organized by CLEP, invited renowned playwright Mr. Wang Haoran to deliver the second lecture of the project. The lectures were held on November 21 at LSK-206, CUHK, and on November 27 at CPD-3.41, HKU. Nearly 150 participants from both universities registered for the event.
The lectures were conducted in a workshop format, during which the guest speaker shared his experiences in scriptwriting. Mr. Wang designed many interactive activities. In addition to analysing film and television clips to explain the differences between drama dialogues and monologues, as well as various creative methods, he also collaborated with students to try improvisational creation. Throughout the two-hour session, students immersed themselves in creating, sharing their works with each other, and adding new characters to this world—characters that are waiting to become stories. The creations by students from School of Chinese, HKU, received praise from the speaker. Even more surprisingly, Mr. Wang Wei, former Hong Kong Repertory Theatre actor, Best Actor at the 28th Hong Kong Drama Awards who appeared in lecture demonstration videos, also attended the event.
